We recently reached out to our MATTER member companies to gauge how many of them were developing, or planning to develop, solutions for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The response we received was overwhelming.
Dozens of MATTER startups are giving their solutions away for free, retooling their products to support health needs in a pandemic time, and accelerating research into therapeutics and diagnostic tools. To help these solutions reach the right people and organizations, we’re sharing the growing list here.

Arete Biosciences — Free solution
Arete Biosciences is working with Xtrava, a Silicon Valley-based health tech startup, on offering a limited release of their product Butterfly Breathe: a unique over-the-clothing bio-sensing wearable device that continuously monitors patients at risk of coronavirus complications. Since respiratory symptoms are extremely common in severe coronavirus cases, this device will alert users if their breathing rate exceeds one and a half times their average breathing rate for a duration of five minutes. Butterfly Breathe also monitors sleep, activity patterns and changes in near-body temperature to create a personalized behavior model that is used to detect potential anomalies. Data can be remotely shared if necessary. Xtrava has started working with healthcare providers in the Bay area and is willing to extend units to any healthcare partner in the MATTER network, free of charge. Clearstep
Clearstep delivers actionable next steps for care when patients need it most in a way that is configured to specific health systems. They’ve developed a COVID-19 screener built off gold standard guidelines from the CDC, Schmitt-Thompson protocols, the New York State Department of Health, King’s College and the University of California, San Francisco. The screener checks for COVID-19 risk to determine whether an individual needs testing and risk stratifies their symptoms to determine if they need in-person care or can access care via telemedicine. Dina
Dina, formerly known as Prepared Health, is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered care coordination platform that helps hospitals and health plans care for seniors. Dina is now offering remote patient monitoring, quarantine management, patient self-assessment and updated employee check-in and screening capabilities to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Medsense
Medsense is a medication management and remote monitoring platform that uses attachable Bluetooth sensors to convert any medication container into a smart device and a voice interactive application to help people take the right dose at the right time. The application records medication consumption data that can be shared with the patient, family, caregiver and care team through a mobile app. Medsense can help patients discharged to home care properly manage their new medication regimens as well as monitor and share their medication consumption data with the appropriate parties. This will free up time spent by the pharmacist and nurse in regards to medication management as well as keep patients adherent and out of the emergency department reducing preventable congestion. MyndYou
MyndYou’s AI-driven voice bot, MyEleanor, can be utilized by healthcare providers to monitor and detect coronavirus symptoms and help them deliver personalized, timely care to high-risk patients who may not have access to treatment otherwise. Additionally, care professionals can use MyndYou’s remote calling platform to reach out and engage with their clients. Both solutions contain an AI-based voice analysis algorithm, which works in the background of calls to detect changes in patient health. Orbita — Free solution
Orbita creates secure, enterprise-grade voice and chatbot-powered virtual assistants. To assist healthcare organizations in their response to COVID-19, Orbita built a COVID-19 screening chatbot that can be readily integrated into existing websites to improve access to coronavirus-specific question-answering and screening tools. patientMpower — Free solution
patientMpower is launching a COVID-19 remote monitoring and triage solution with a health provider in Ireland. Their solution, available for iPhone and iPad, monitors patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 and those who are in isolation due to experiencing symptoms. The technology can be used to track the progression of COVID-19 in patients and automatically submit the data to a portal for clinical review. The app is currently free to patients who have been prescribed it. To access the tool, download it on the App Store.
PhysIQ
PhysIQ’s proprietary personalized analytics system, pinpointIQ, has been sanctioned for COVID-19 care by the FDA. pinpointIQ may be used to provide continuous physiologic remote monitoring to homebound or quarantined patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 — or those who might require continuous monitoring due to high-risk profiles like heart failure, COPD or hypertension. By passively collecting wearable sensor data and applying advanced analytics, pinpointIQ hopes to ease the burden on hospitals and other healthcare facilities, reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure for patients and healthcare providers and conserve resources for the very sickest. Third Eye Health
Third Eye Health has activated their Rapid Deployment Protocol™ to extend their telehealth platform and physician services to hundreds of health systems, physician groups and operators nationwide. With the company’s mobile-based solution, when a patient or resident is in need of immediate medical care, a nurse can contact one of their specially trained physicians through secure video and text messaging. Third Eye Health also provides a dedicated professional services team that can establish connections between providers, SNFs and health systems and assist with virtual training, workflow design, provider-nurse engagement and utilization management. TapCloud
TapCloud aims to bridge the communication gap between patients and their doctors, and they are offering existing customers their secure video teleconferencing solution for free through June 30. They will charge new customers a small implementation fee, but will waive any licensing fees or obligation to continue using TapCloud after June 30.TapCloud is also offering a full COVID-19 -specific word cloud care plan, designed for both detection and management of people with COVID-19, through their patented preparatory word cloud-based platform. Tell Health — Free solution
Tell Health’s HIPAA-compliant communication platform that helps keep people out of the hospital. Their platform helps healthcare providers share information with patients on how to isolate themselves until test results are available, send test results to patients and ensure that patients have the right information on how to act on the outcome of the test. The platform also helps track cases at the city, county and state levels. Tell Health is using this technology to support COVID-19 testing for free at New Roseland Community Hospital on Chicago’s South Side. Interested organizations can learn more here.
Agamon — Free solution
Agamon’s platform uses deep language understanding to help health systems leverage their mass volumes of unstructured textual clinical data to ensure better patient care and experience, mitigate liability risk and generate growth opportunities while reducing administrative burden. They’re exploring using their technology to categorize non- COVID-19 patients and streamline the process of postponing their treatment to require as little human intervention as possible. AgileMD — Free solution
AgileMD is an EHR-integrated web and mobile application that gives clinicians direct access to guidelines, protocols and scoring tools. They have worked with leading medical centers to automate screening and management pathways for COVID-19 cases, and can rapidly update them with the latest clinical evidence and guidelines from the CDC. AgileMD is offering their solution at no charge to any hospital that wants it, and they will do all the integration work for free to get them up and running quickly. Learn more here.
AMOpportunities
The AMOpportunities platform connects international medical students and graduates with clinical experiences at medical schools and institutions in the U.S. In response to COVID-19, AMOpportunities is petitioning the U.S. Government, healthcare system and Federation of State Medical Boards to enable the 65,000 unlicensed international medical graduates in the U.S. — a population that could make huge contributions in the fight against COVID-19 — to assist physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals under the supervision of a licensed physician.. Aiva Health
Aiva Health is using their voice assistance and mobile technology to help protect clinicians and improve patient wellbeing in COVID-19 units. Their AI technology, Aiva, enables hands-free calling for PPE-outfitted staff and isolated patients. Additional features of Avia include smart routing, proactive messaging, smart room technology and education for both staff and patients.
EDLoop
EDLoop is a web-based platform that allows emergency physicians to text information directly to patients’ phones during their hospital stay. EDLoop promotes social distancing by limiting patient and staff exposure and reducing the amount of personal protective equipment used by staff. Learn more here.
Illuminate Health — Free solution
Illuminate Health is an app-mediated medication optimization platform serving several sectors throughout the healthcare continuum. Illuminate health is also working to help ensure that addiction clinics that are treating patients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) can still run intensive outpatient programs virtually. Kinnos

Ondine Biomedical
Ondine Biomedical is applying their novel nasal decolonization technology to provide nasal and upper airway sterilization to prevent spread during the COVID-19 outbreak. Though the solution is not yet available in the U.S., Ondine recently helped disinfect the noses of seniors at a private nursing home in Edmonton, Alberta. Ondine is seeking an Expanded Access designation from the FDA and is looking forward to further exploring the potential for their technology to help prevent person to person spread as well as stop COVID-19 from traveling from the nose into the trachea. Twiage
Twiage is using their app-based emergency communication technology to work alongside first responders and healthcare workers. They designed several custom workflows that improve communication and preparation efforts in communities affected by the virus. The Twiage app’s “Isolation” module allows EMS providers to share earlier alerts with hospitals for incoming cases that meet potential COVID-19 criteria, better preparing staff for incoming patients and enabling more effective management of valuable resources. Additional Twiage features are being used to broadcast alerts and updated situational information across entire regions, as well as updates on preventative protocols directly to providers in the field. Pangea Medical
Pangea Medical partners with healthcare organizations to deliver accurate and cost-effective care once patients are discharged. One critical component of the COVID-19 pandemic is provider capacity, and Pangea Medical is creating an offering to help organizations reduce patient length of stay, ED-overutilization and put an infrastructure in place to better support non-COVID-19 patients in the community. Redivus Health — Free solution
Redivus Health is offering free use of the Redivus Code Blue app to healthcare professionals (both individuals and organizations) through July 1, 2020. The most serious COVID-19 cases may result in respiratory arrest or cardiac arrest, so Redivus Health is offering their Code Blue mobile app to provide clinical guidance and documentation when a patient’s heart or breathing stops. Rx.Health
Rx.health — a leader in prescription of digital therapeutics and digital navigation programs — has launched COVereD, a comprehensive digital toolkit and digital health network to combat COVID-19. COVereD initiative curates and integrates digital tools under a single platform to support education, triage, telehealth and home-based surveillance to help mitigate the influx of patients and the likelihood of exposed patients walking into the facilities without any warning. Shurpa — Free solution
Shurpa has a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for optimizing in-home healthcare appointments and clinician logistics. Shurpa manages the in-home appointment lifecycle from start to finish: coordinating appointment times with patients via SMS, turning those appointments into efficient routes that reach each patient’s home on time, providing a mobile app for clinicians in the field and enabling patients to access e-commerce-level tracking capabilities. surefhir
surefhir builds electronic medical record plug-ins that map a patient’s healthcare journey. In the response to COVID-19, surefhir has pivoted to working on a clinician COVID-19 exposure tracker. Every hospital has limited resources to test, monitor and provide PPE to their clinicians so surefhir is working to help them make a data-driven decision when there are limited tests and supplies available. StoCastic
StoCastic has partnered with OSF Healthcare to launch their E-Triage AI tool to identify patients that are at high risk for hospitalization due to COVID-19. StoCastic’s E-Triage tool enables nurses to triage patients over the phone rather than in hospitals and mobilize pandemic health care workers to test patients in their homes and send samples to labs. Tetrix Health — Free solution
Tetrix Health uses artificial intelligence to optimize workflow for healthcare providers. They’re using their expertise and technology to create free COVID-19 solutions for providers and clinics, including: A remote monitoring solution for people experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or who have tested positive for it. A solution that provides patients with real-time updates on delays in clinics and hospitals to reduce congestion and potential infections in waiting rooms. CareBand
CareBand uses wearable technology to reduce death and injuries due to dementia-related wandering while enhancing the quality of life for those living with dementia. In response to COVID-19, CareBand has expanded their solutions to the general population with SafeTrack. SafeTrack enables contact tracing, geofencing, proximity monitoring and more. Through a combination of LoRaWAN, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), GPS, and other sensors, the system allows for indoor and outdoor location tracking with custom alerts via SMS or call, and historical data for disease spread. Limber — Free solution
Limber is offering their musculoskeletal therapy app for free to providers who want to prescribe therapy for their patients to perform at home. After learning that many patients with musculoskeletal complaints were resorting to the emergency room when they couldn’t get visits with their physicians and physical therapists, Limber announced this offering to ensure that patients get the help they need and to reduce strain on the healthcare system. Maxwell Telecare
Maxwell Telecare provides telemedicine services to long-term care facilities, including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and independent living. In addition to providing overnight on-call services for acute changes in condition, our program also provides daytime coverage. Maxwell Telecare provides primary care services along with all medical specialty services through remote connectivity. They bring expert, dedicated specialists remotely, so patients don’t have to leave the facility for care. Their platform also allows patients’ family members to “accompany” them to physician visits through remote access and provides video conferencing for families who can’t visit their loved ones. SurvivorPlan — Free solution
SurvivorPlan is now offering their Care Plans and Symptom Screener free of charge to provide necessary information to patients and screen for possible infection of COVID-19. Provider organizations in home health or clinic settings can use these tools for patients who are at higher risk for COVID-19, such as the immunocompromised, those with cancer or others with underlying conditions. SuvivorPlan Care Plans can be used to give patients information on how to manage their care during this time, and instructions on who to contact and when in various situations. Inference Analytics — Free solution
Inference Analytics has developed the Inference Analytics Neural Network (IANN) COVID-19 Search Engine — a deep learning platform that is able to evaluate all journal articles being published around the world. IANN is able to evaluate the content available about COVID-19 and highlight relevant articles for each question being asked by care providers and researchers. Learn more here. CareAcademy — Free solution
CareAcademy provides online professional development opportunities for caregivers. In response to the pandemic, CareAcademy has created a COVID-19 Certification Class to prepare direct care workers to perform critical frontline work with patients. This class is meant to help give caregivers the information they need to know about the coronavirus and how to care for themselves and their patients. Learn more about the class here.
Docola
Docola makes it easy for clinics to quickly create patient communication courses based on information arriving from the CDC, the NIH and other trusted organizations. Their tool enables healthcare providers and hospitals to e-prescribe and track patient communication, dramatically improving how they support patients before, after, or between face-to-face visits or on telemedicine appointments. The platform and many of the resources are freely available (with some content offered for a licensing fee). The Docola team is running daily webinars at 12pm EST on how their platform can be used during this pandemic.
Enduvo — Free solution
Enduvo connects learners with experts through an easy-to-use immersive content development and delivery platform. With Enduvo, users can quickly create and share augmented and virtual reality-based (AR/VR) lessons and access them 24/7. In response to COVID-19, Enduvo is helping educators and healthcare providers by providing a free, one-year Enduvo Educator License to facilitate better remote learning/teaching throughout the pandemic. OmniLife is a mobile health information technology company that provides patient-centric software to the organ failure care continuum. Vynca
Vynca is an advance care planning solution that empowers clinicians, patients, and caregivers through the planning for end-of-life care. In light of the impact that COVID-19 has on vulnerable patients, Vynca can help clarify goals of care and ensure that advance care planning documents are available to clinicians so they can provide appropriate care. The Vynca team published a blog post highlighting the importance of advance care planning that includes advance care planning tools available for both clinicians and patients. Vynca has also recently launched an Emergency Advance Care Planning eRegistry to help support healthcare organizations with teleconsults, electronic processes, and more. Clara Health — Free solution
Clara Health, an expert in connecting patients to breakthrough clinical trials, has the latest information on clinical trials for COVID-19 on the Clara Health Platform. The results are updated every 24 hours. Patients interested in learning more about trials should visit the Clara Health Platform and sign up to participate.
Curebase — Free solution
Curebase, a decentralized CRO and software platform, launched CURE-19 — a dedicated platform for running at-home COVID-19 clinical trials. Through CURE-19, any patient in the United States, no matter where they live, can sign up for the platform and start participating in studies right at home. There is no travel needed, and patients can be part of driving scientific discoveries, get free genomic and microbiome testing and even get paid for their participation. Learn more about CURE-19.
C3 De-escalation
C3 De-escalation is pivoting from live training to webinars to support public health agencies with de-escalation techniques during times of crisis and/or lockdown. C3 specializes in immediate, short-term, industrial-strength de-escalation, good for working with panicky or defiant people and improving cooperation under stress. NowPow — Free solution
NowPow is making it possible for care providers, rapid responders and volunteers to refer people to vital emergency resources that are validated with updated service availability during the COVID-19 crisis. They are also offering a free tool to community-based organizations so they can text or email referrals for services they may not be able to provide. Read more about their response to COVID-19 here.
SuperBetter — Free solution
SuperBetter activates the psychological strengths of game play to build resilience and success in real life. Their team is developing a Coronavirus Power Pack to help people and communities manage the stress, disruption and uncertainty associated with the pandemic. The new Power Pack will turn SuperBetter into a ‘Coronavirus Game’ that helps players build mental, emotional, social and physical resilience as they follow the COVID-19 guidance from the World Health Organization and the CDC. They published a blog post inviting the community to share ideas for how to turn SuperBetter into a coronavirus game. The insights will inform the development of a new, evidence-based Coronavirus Power Pack that will soon be available for free in the SuperBetter app.
Upfront Healthcare
Upfront Healthcare focuses on optimizing patient engagement and is working with their clients to deploy a re-booking program. The program will help communicate with patients on how and when re-booking will begin, identify high-priority visits, proactively engage patients for care and more.
ExplORer Surgical
ExplORer Surgical is a cloud-based software platform that provides workflow management for surgical procedures. With the current travel restrictions, in-room support by medical manufacturers during a procedure is often no longer possible, so ExplORer is currently working on a solution for medical manufacturers to provide that support remotely. rMark Bio
rMark Bio, a leader in enterprise AI for life sciences professionals, is integrating Zoom directly into their healthcare provider engagement product, Cue. This feature will enable pharmaceutical reps to virtually engage with their key healthcare providers. rMark Bio plans to launch this product in April and will provide the feature to their customers free of charge. Blueprint Health — Free solution
Blueprint Health’s mental health solutions can help mental health clinics care for their patients who may be suffering consequences of the pandemic, from changes in available workforce to patients in quarantine, through remote patient monitoring and telehealth. Blueprint isn’t just available for mental health professionals — anyone can use the Blueprint app to personally track and monitor their own mental health for free.
Feel
Feel is launching the Feel Relief Program for individuals, health plans, health systems and employers. The four-week, fully remote support program includes app-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) resources and weekly sessions with mental health coaches to help individuals build the resilience and acceptance skills they need during the pandemic. OPTT — Free solution
OPTT is offering healthcare providers the use of their digital mental health platform for free for the next six months. OPTT’s tools enable mental health provider teams to add digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to their services as an alternative, asynchronous time-saving solution or in combination with their current video or in-person service. The structure of each platform is customized to each client and can be deployed on a private cloud through a custom domain. Pear Therapeutics
Pear Therapeutics launched the PEAR Assistance Program to ensure access to Prescription Digital Therapeutics (PDT), reSET® and reSET-0®, for people living with addiction in these complicated times. PDTs have a critical role to play for patients in recovery and under current circumstances with COVID-19, the advantages of PDTs to clinicians and patients with addiction treatment needs are significant. PDTs can treat patients without physical proximity, extend care over distances and beyond treatment facilities, promote deeper connection between patients and their care team through physician-monitored cognitive behavioral therapy and empower patients to strengthen their self-assessment skills and better navigate their care.
